In considering the magnificence of God, there are a couple of things to look at. And one that tops the list is the tact and excellence He put into creation: From the expanse of the seas to the various species and kinds of living creatures, and even the skies and heavenly bodies.
Every part of creation does point to His greatness, but in this post, we are considering some very unusual trees that were created by God and sure have the ability to keep us in awe.
1. Socotra Dragon Tree
Botanically known as the Dracaena Cinnabari, the Socotra Dragon Tree is also known as the Dragon Blood Tree.
It is a tree located in part of Yemen, in the Arabian Sea, and is a native to the Socotra archipelago. It is endemic to the island of Socotra, in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Yemen.
Due to the harsh life in Socotra, it is assumed that only extraordinary plants can really survive there. It is said, the shape of the tree contributes greatly to its survival ability.
It is interesting to see how God takes His time to build survival characteristics into a unique tree like this and places it to grow right where it has been suited to survive.
2. Baobab Trees in Madagascar
This tree is known for its ability to grow really big. Getting to as high as 80 feet and more, the Baobab Tree is often used for fruits and bark. It grows in 32 different countries.
Almost 75% of the tree’s height is all wood and no leaves of branches. It only begins to branch out around the top one-fourth of its entire height.
It is a succulent tree, so during the rainy season, it absorbs and stores water in its vast trunk. This, in turn, enables it to produce fruits that are nutrient-dense in the dry season. Its ability to produce such great fruits even in the dry season is the reason it is often referred to as the “Tree Of Life.”
3. Royal Poinciana Tree
Also referred to as “Delonix regia,” it is a species of flowering plant that belongs in the bean family Fabaceae, subfamily Caesalpinioideae.
It is a fast-growing evergreen tree whose beauty is truly outstanding. It is quite abundant in tropical and subtropical areas, with its characteristically bright scarlet fern-like flowers.
When you talk about creatures that demonstrate the beauty of God, you certainly wouldn’t skip this beautiful tree.
4. Angel Oak Tree
The Angel Oak Tree is a rather interesting one when compared to the rest of the trees in this list. It is a Southern Live Oak (Quercus virginiana), located in Angel Oak Park on Johns Island near Charleston, South Carolina.
Like most oak trees, the Angel Oak Tree is a shrub in the genus Quercus of the beech family, Fagaceae. The tree is over 60 feet tall with a wide canopy, and it is believed that the tree is around 400 years old.
It has become a major sight attraction, with several visitors to the park snapping pictures under the tree.
5. Joshua Tree
One would wonder where it got the name — Joshua Tree — from, but it is also known as Yucca Palm. It is an evergreen plant belonging to the lily family.
This tree inhabits desert plains, slopes, ridges, and flat-topped hills on the altitude between 1.300 to 5.900 feet. And that is why it is an amazing expression of God’s greatness. Imagine an evergreen plant growing right in the most unfavorable of places!
There are 3 subspecies of Joshua tree that can be found only in Mojave Desert. Joshua tree is numerous in the wild, but scientists estimate that future climate changes may negatively impact survival of this plant. Developing one stem and a dense crown, composed of erect branches, the trees often grow to between 15–40 feet in height and about 1–3 feet in diameter.
The most popular remembrance of this plant is in the Joshua Tree National Park in southern California, characterized by rugged rock formations and stark desert landscapes. It has been so named for the region’s twisted, bristled Joshua trees: The park straddles the cactus-dotted Colorado Desert and the Mojave Desert, which is higher and cooler.
Each of these types of trees is unique in their own way. They convey the idea that God is both multi-faceted and multi-dimensional. Which of them did you find the most fascinating? Let us know in the comments below which you consider your favorite of them all.
